Our Manifesto

Hemp is the oldest performance textile on earth. We didn't invent it. We just stopped ignoring it. It's stronger than cotton, cleaner to grow, and better for every body that trains in it. We're veterans. We know what good gear means — and we know what mission means. HempWeave is both.

— HempWeave LLC · Founded in Washington State

Deployed.
Committed.

Before HempWeave, before the mat — there was the mission. The founder served in the United States Army, deploying overseas and living the discipline, sacrifice, and brotherhood that military service demands. That experience doesn't leave you when you take off the uniform.

Service teaches you things that are hard to explain to someone who hasn't experienced it — the weight of shared purpose, the clarity that comes from a real mission, and what it means to have people who will absolutely not let you fail. It also teaches you what you lose when that's gone.

"When you get out, you don't just lose a job. You lose a tribe, a structure, a reason to get up and push hard every single day."

The transition out is where a lot of veterans struggle most. Not the battlefield — the aftermath. The loss of identity, routine, and belonging that service provides. HempWeave was built with that in mind from day one.

Found it
on the mat.

In January 2025, Jake stepped onto the mat for the first time — not because he was looking for a new sport, but because he wanted to show his son something. He was 39. If he could do it at 39, his son could do it too. What he didn't expect was how quickly jiu-jitsu gave back what leaving the military had taken: a daily practice with something real to earn, a community that holds each other accountable, and a culture of respect built on what you can actually do.

"Jiu-jitsu gave me a mission again after I got out. I wanted to build something that gave back to the people who need that most."

He competed. He trained. He bought gis — cotton blends, synthetics, the standard options. And he kept asking the same question: why is nobody making these from hemp? The fiber has been used for thousands of years. It outperforms cotton in tensile strength, resists bacteria naturally, and grows without the chemical inputs that industrial cotton demands. Every manufacturer gave the same answer: "it's complicated." That answer became HempWeave.

The $10-per-gi donation to veteran causes isn't a marketing line. It's in HempWeave's LLC operating agreement. Every sale, at any price point, triggers it. No asterisks. If we can't sustain it, we'll say so publicly. That's a promise made on the same terms as any commitment worth keeping.

Four commitments we don't negotiate on.

01

100% Hemp.
No blends.

If a gi isn't made from pure hemp, it doesn't leave our facility with our label. We're not interested in hemp-cotton blends that let us put "hemp" on the tag. That's not what we're about.

02

Veteran giving.
Built in, not bolted on.

$10 per gi goes to veteran causes. Not "a portion." Not "proceeds may go to." $10, every unit, no matter the price paid. It's in our operating agreement. If we can't sustain it, we'll tell you why.

03

Competition spec.
Or we don't sell it.

Every gi we produce is engineered to meet IBJJF competition standards. We will never release a gi that can't be worn on the competition floor. Sustainability and performance are not a tradeoff here.

04

Transparency.
On everything.

We'll tell you where our fabric is made, who makes it, what we pay, and what we donate. We're a small company right now. You can email the founder. That's how it should be.

The Idea Takes Root

A veteran-BJJ practitioner in Washington State starts asking why no one is making gis from hemp. The answer — "it's complicated" — becomes the business plan.

2025

HempWeave LLC Founded

Sole-member LLC established in Washington State. Veteran-owned business designation pursued. Overseas sourcing conversations begin with manufacturers in Pakistan and China. Fabric specifications, competition standards compliance, and the kids' circular buy-back program all take shape.

April 2026

First Quality Control Batch

First samples arrive. Construction, stitching, collar stiffness, patch embroidery, and wash durability all tested against spec. Adjustments made. The Standard takes its final form in Royal Blue and Black.

June 2026

Second QC Batch · Pre-Order Campaign Opens

Second quality control batch confirms production consistency. Pre-order campaign launches — 500 gis, two colorways. Every unit sold triggers a $10 donation to veteran causes.

Near Horizon

New Colorways

Royal Blue and Black are just the start. Additional colorways are in exploration — including natural undyed hemp and other options driven by community feedback. If you have a colorway you want to see, email us.

Long-Term Goal

Domestic Vertical Production

The long-term mission is to move the entire supply chain to the United States — from fiber processing through cut-and-sew — once enough capital is reserved. The Pacific Northwest has the hemp-growing infrastructure, veteran business support, and textile potential to make a domestic hemp gi mill viable. SDVOSB, SBA, and USDA pathways are under active exploration. Every gi sold gets us closer.

Grow With Us — HempWeave Kids Gi

Grow With Us · Black · Pearl Weave

Start them young.
Let the gi keep up.

The same 100% hemp construction as the adult line — scaled for young grapplers. Pearl weave, gold embroidered patches, engineered to meet IBJJF competition standards, and built to survive hard training, rough washes, and everything kids put gear through.

Every kids' gi comes with our circular buy-back guarantee. When they outgrow it, send it back — we'll credit you toward the next size up. Hemp is durable enough to earn a second life, and we built the program around that.

01

Buy the gi

Order in their current size. Sizes M00000 through M5.

02

They train, they grow

Hemp softens and holds up through every roll, wash, and growth spurt.

03

Send it back

When it's too small, mail it back in usable condition — no major rips, tears, or damage. We refurbish what we can and recycle the rest.

04

Credit toward the next size

Store credit applied toward the next size up. Hemp is too good to landfill.

The Mission

Service doesn't end
at the gate.

The transition out of military service is one of the hardest things many veterans face. The loss of mission, structure, and tribe hits harder than most people expect. Jiu-jitsu is one of the few things that gives those things back — a daily practice, a community, and something real to earn.

We give $10 per gi to organizations working on veteran transition, mental health, and community. We'll announce our partner organizations annually. If you have a veteran-focused organization you think we should know about, email us.
